A short film is actually part of what started my previous design firm, The Sulky Bros. Manufactorium. We came together with the idea for a film, talked over some rough visuals, and landed some clients separately during the process. Starting out, we needed marketing assets and realized the artwork from the film would be perfect to set the stage for two designers who loved to dream.
The images here are a sampling of the matte paintings and visual development created around our hero, Robbinius J. Robb, and his curation of failed experiments, otherwise known as the Hall of Miscarried Runagrounds. The architecture, materials, and overall style of these images informed the corporate visual identity almost 1:1. In fact, the development of both brand and film happened simultaneously, and influenced each other in an organic and quite successful way.
As in real life, Robbi succeeded at some things, and failed at others; he touched the sky of his dreams while other opportunities slipped through his fingers. But through it all he always cherished the beauty, difficulty, and originality of all that he experienced. Few were able to travel the path he forged, and he never stopped dreaming.
