Thales, one of the leading in-flight entertainment companies in the world, approached us at Artefact to take the in-flight experience (IFE) to the next level. Building on the work we had already done for them in this space in 2015, we felt there was an opportunity to bring the passenger's destination a little closer during the flight to help immerse and prepare them for the experience ahead.

The Goal

 

Increase customer engagement during flight to secure Thales’ spot as #1 IFE.

 
 

The Solution

 

Serve custom content based on the customer’s destination.

 

We decided to base our concept on a flight from NYC to Paris, and themed content accordingly. The flight to Paris, for example, featured films set in France with French artists, musicians, and travel guides peppered throughout. We took our designs to a higher visual fidelity and cut it together into a two-minute video that fleshed out the animations and transitions for a full IFE experience.

 

We began by sketching out IFE UX flows that contained almost exclusively destination-based content and worked through ways that could logically and comfortably enhance the flight experience.

The Result

 

Thales Avant is now the ideal gateway to passengers through targeted personalization, advertising, and onboard sales.

 

Airlines can now generate more revenue and promote their brand more effectively.
