Rome Season One package concepts. Keyart courtesy of HBO.
Warner Bros. wanted to see some alternative ideas to the standard O-sleeve or Digipak TV series packages for the Season One release of Rome. With the strong visual language of ancient Rome, structural ideas were plentiful. Working with Warren Osborn, Bryan Dunford, and Josh Nelson, we explored various ways to add dimensionality to a flat package to help it jump off of the shelf. We combined tin, plastic, lenticulars, and direct-to-substrate printing with structures drawn directly from the architecture of the period for innovative package designs that have never been seen before or since.
Although we got close, we were unable to get the design down to the manufacturable price point Warner desired, so these concepts unfortunately went unused.
