Kia Cash Bash is Kia’s annual national dealer incentive event featuring interactive gaming screens that award prizes based on in-game performance. Powered by IntoMotion, the 2011 event wanted to travel back to ancient Rome and place the users in the middle of the Colosseum to do battle with the clock. Obviously there is no existing photography of ancient Rome at the height of its glory, so Kia and IntoMotion turned to my firm to design the environment and interfaces for the game.
We began with simple marker drawings exploring various 360 degree panoramic concepts for the actual game. From there we looked at different ways to enter the arena and how the interaction would go down once inside. Over a six-week period, at least four different start-to-finish concepts were explored and studied with color, architectural, and compositional variations to determine the most preferred direction of our fabulous client.
All-in-all we designed multiple environments, painted several matte paintings for the different game locations, and created realistic interface elements for an immersive experience, all on time and within budget.
